GRATITUDE

To be grateful according to Merriam-Webster is to be appreciative of benefits received: feeling or showing thanks.

Gratitude is the state of being grateful : THANKFULNESS.

And thankfulness is conscious of benefit received.

So all together, gratitude is the practice of being conscious of the benefits God has given us and thanking Him for those things.

In doing so, we are guarding our hearts by reminding ourselves and God of all that is good and beneficial in our lives.

We protect ourselves from comparison, bitterness, envy, rage. This is a form of worship that puts our mind on God. This conforms our thinking to see what is good in our lives.

This practice creates an atmosphere of appreciation. We will see we are more blessed than we previously noticed. We are exalting God over what our senses are telling us.

Scripture tells us in Psalm 22:3 “But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.” God is King and when we adore Him, He takes His seat in those praises. The name Israel means God-prevails.

Next time you are in a situation that is less than stellar or in a negative head space, give thanks.

God prevails over it all.

Imitate Jesus and give thanks.

God is good.

Jesus’ peace sets guard over you and protects you.

He has called you to peace and desires for His own peace to rule in your heart. Thankfulness is the easiest way to realign with that peace.

Note: God gives aid to our souls. God helps us in our walk in faith in Christ to become more like Him. It’s called: charis, which is grace. I encourage you to go to the Throne of Grace mentioned in Hebrews 4:16 and receive this help from God.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭136‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭2‬, ‭15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬, ‭7‬-‭10‬, ‭12‬-‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭22‬:‭3‬ ‭KJV‬‬
